Look I don’t mind the occasional article about motorcycles. I get it, there is interest in them and clicks to be found. but for a site that describes itself as:
Daily automobile news and gossip for those obsessed with the cult of cars.
Having 5 out the 20 acticles on the frontpage about motorcycles, 2 being native advertisement and 1 about politics is overdoing it a bit.
But then again, that’s just my humble opinion.

They’re actually just sharing it from Lanesplitter, which is the motorcycle-version sub Jalopnik of Jalopnik. I think sometimes they share it from Foxtrot Alpha or Flight Club too, so it’s not so much they’re writing away from Jalopnik, they’re just sharing what they think we might think is interesting.

Content here is better anyway.

Jalopnik is about receiving clicks. Nothing more, nothing less.

I’m aware of this and that there is apparently a motorcycle show going on, but it is about how you present yourself as a site/blog. This just feels like the site is losing focus of what it wants (wanted) to be.

Just keep scrolling, just keep scrolling!
Really, what I find annoying are the random ads for socks and mouthwash that keep coming up.

Calm down, its EICMA this week which is one of the big shows where manufacturers unveil lots of new bikes so there’s a lot of press releases that are getting shared from lanesplitter

I hear what you’re saying. But, we have to accept that the rising popularity of the site means more diversified content, which means more stuff that isn’t necessarily interesting to each of us on an individual basis.
I wouldn’t mind if non-automotive-related links (e.g: political) were kept off to the side, though. Fortunately, the staff keep the content flowing pretty regularly so that I don't have to wait long for new material with which to waste my workday. If the time comes that stuff I want to read becomes scarce, I'll just stop reading.

There are a ton of new and really sweet bikes being released one after another right now...not a whole lot going on with cars at the moment.

Jalopnik - Two Wheels Bad (But We’re Coming Around)?
Sorry you can’t “hoon” on two wheels; you can only “ho”.

I agree, and they still putt out great stuff. It is just that it makes the site look like it doesn’t know what it wants to be. If bike news gets that many clicks, why not make Lanesplitter one of the main sites.
Like I said, just my opinion. But if no one voices their opinion, it will never get heard.

Two wheels ba— Ooh! Look at those sweet clicks!

Beats crossover and Miata articles.

A LOT of Oppos are equally as big a fan of bikes as they are of cars. As are plenty of Jalopnik staffers and commenters. Your criticism of Jalopnik’s inclusion of bike-related stories seems more than a little pedantic.

Couldn’t agree more. Kinja = Clicks.
Klickja.

Jeremy? You are on Jalopnik? Whoa!

FWIW, I did wonder at the huge increase in bike news. Maybe Sean discovered a new flavor of 5-hour energy or something.

Honestly I think Jalopnik needs a car sub-blog. If a Truck article I go to Truck Yeah, a race article Black Flag, if I want a Car article I have to sift through the Jalopnik, the Garage, and Buyers Guide.

Yeah, the last couple days have been...odd on that front. I doubt it'll stay that way.

I actually like seeing things shared from LaneSplitter, FoxTrotAlpha, FlightClub, etc. Jalopnik may used to just be about cars but I think now its more a site for gearheads. Anything “gearhead-y” gets shared to the FP. Think about it. If you like cars, whats not to like about bikes and planes? Still man made machines that propel humans - and that’s what I’m into.

Jalopnik needs a feature where you can (de)select subblogs in your profile.

I remember when it wasn’t about
cars
, it was about the
culture
of cars. Now those were the days.

Honestly, while I like bikes, I’m kind of with you. I bet it’s bc they have nothing interesting or click-bait-y enough to write about.

If it has an engine or motor (or is propelled by some means of mechinization ie. Bicycles) it is of interest to me. So I welcome our two-wheeled overlords.

I look at Jalopnik as the catchall for the other blogs like Black Flag, Truck Yeah, The Garage and all the others up there on the top left drop down menu. I like the overall view of what’s going on with the other pages. From there I may check them individually to dig a little deeper. Lane Splitter is a favorite.
I definitely wasn’t around during the golden years, however, so my opinion may be
.

What is a “Jalopnik”, anyways? Why does someone need to pigeon-hole themselves into liking only one type of thing, rather than appreciate many things for what they are?
To me, a “Jalopnik” is someone who has an appreciation for all things with an engine and tires, whether that be swamp buggies, motocross bikes, Peel P50s, or old Harley Davidsons that were basically bicycle frames with a tiny engine on them.

There’s a big bike show on right now (EICMA) so you can expect a flood of bike news, just as you would when one of the major autoshows is happening. This will pass.
The balance is generally pretty good, I think.
